Stray, but in need of home and love (dogs and cats)

stray dog that has been familiar to me
Here in our country, one of the things you'll notice in the urban environment is that not only humans are in large populations in small places, but also dogs and cats. It's sad to think that, like their homeless human counterparts, dogs and cats are astray and wandering around in different places just to find food.

Everyday, on my way home and on my way to work, I pass by them. I can't help noticing these homeless little creatures. I usually see them looking for food in the garbage cans, sleeping on the alley, and dodging cars. I realize that this consists of their everyday lives. I want to help them but I just can't. I don't know how and I feel myself being torn apart.

They have lives too, like you and I, they have rights that we shouldn't take. The most painful part is that, they can't speak for themselves. There is no government agency that is dedicated to giving them healthcare and at least shelter that they need. Their pain is real too, like yours and mine.

One cause of this big problem is that people breed, buy, and sell dogs and cats without the full intention of taking care of them instead of just adopting and taking care of them. They should be treated as family members, not just as toys and inanimate objects.

The typical stray animals in this country is domesticated animals, or once family pets, that are abandoned and left for dead when their owners can no longer afford to feed them and they do not care anymore. Why is this? It's because they do not treat these animals as family members. You wouldn't just abandon your only brother. Would you?

People say that one way to stop this problem is to spay and neuter their pets, which removes their ability to reproduce. I, somehow, don't agree with this. I just can't, even though it might be one solution to lessen the whole problem.

In a study, it was concluded that the number 1 cause of animal cruelty is animal overpopulation. Animal cruelty happens when people have been inconvenienced by too many cats and dogs that they end up hurting them to express their anger.

The sad reality is that, there will never be enough homes and shelters for these stray animals. There are things we could do to help them. That may be by at least setting up a small shelter for them to shelter in and by giving them food.

Whenever I look at my dog once and then, I sometimes think of the dogs outside our house, just inside the subdivision and other more dogs around the world that are homeless. This one inconvenient truth, that there are lives out there that need shelter and love too, is purely heartbreaking.

Stray dogs and cats have the right to life. Never try to take
the only thing they have.
